stub A chocobo is a large bird, which is used for transportation. Chocobos are unlocked once players have reached level 20, joined a Grand Company, and completed the My Little Chocobo quest. ==As a mount== Players can use a Chocobo Whistle to acquire the action to summon their personal chocobo. Unlike rental chocobos, there is no time limit regulating how long players may remain on chocoback. Remember, however, there are areas, such as highly populated cities and narrow dungeons, that chocobos will refuse to enter. The action to summon a chocobo can be set to the hotbar and is located within the Mount Guide found under Character in the main menu. If a player is attacked while on chocoback, the steed may buck and run off to safety, causing the player to be dismounted. The chocobo may only be summoned again once the immediate threat has been neutralized. ==Appearance== ===Color=== A chocobo's coloring can be changed through... ===Gear=== Chocobo armor, or "barding," can be equipped via the Companion interface situated in the Character section of the main menu. ==Chocobo saddlebag== Chocobo saddlebags are spacious sacks that can be used as a supplement to a player's normal storage, with features allowing for the simple transfer of items between the saddlebag, a player's inventory, and retainer inventories. The chocobo companion does not need to be summoned to access the saddlebag, however, it cannot be opened while in a duty. ==As a fighting companion== In addition to riding chocobos, players can also summon their chocobo to fight alongside them. Chocobos can be unlocked as fighting companions by completing the quest My Feisty Little Chocobo, which is obtained from Docette in Camp Tranquil in South Shroud. To summon the chocobo companion, simply use Gysahl Greens, which can be purchased in stores. As a rule, chocobos can only fight in the same places in which they can be ridden. Companions can be managed through the Companion menu which is accessible from the Character menu. ===Companion skills=== As a chocobo's rank increases, it will earn skill points (SP). These points can be used to acquire new companion-specific actions and traits in the Skills window. There are three different skill trees players can choose for their chocobo: Defender, Attacker, and Healer. When the chocobo acquires their first skill from any of these trees, they will also learn that tree's stance. Activating the Defender Stance will turn the chocobo into a defensive-minded stalwart. The Attacker Stance will transform the chocobo into an offensive force. Finally the Healer Stance will have the chocobo focus on restoring the player's HP rather than participating in battle. Once an action or trait has been purchased, that purchase cannot be undone. {| class="wikitable" ! Stance !! Skill !! Rank !! To give the chocobo orders, use the command located under Orders in the Actions & Traits interface. To order the chocobo to auto-attack, simply select Free Stance. Players can dismiss their companion at any time by selecting the command Withdraw. Use another bunch of Gysahl Greens to summon the companion again. ==Chocobo raising== To begin raising a chocobo companion, he must first be stabled. Chocobo stables can be purchased and placed outside free company and private estates. One chocobo stable can house a whole company's mounts. While a chocobo is stabled, select Train to increase his EXP and select a reward, like a Krakka Root. Depending on the type of reward the bird is given, his progress may change dramatically. To train a chocobo past rank 10, use a Thavnairian Onionβ as feed. Continuously feeding a chocobo a snack of vibrant vegetables will cause him to grow feathers of a different color.
