Othard, also known as the Far East, is a continent on Hydaelyn. It is the smallest of the Three Great Continents and is comprised of a main landmass and countless islands off its coasts.

Othard

Map of Othard

While Othard is longitudinally situated farther south than Ilsabard, the towering spires which line the region's northern border are covered in snow year-round, and the land beyond them is permanently frozen. From these mountain waters form the One River, the longest and widest watercourse in all of the three continents. The river passes through the great grasslands in which the Auri Xaela clans live before winding through Yanxia—a fertile land that, until the recent invasion by the Garlean Empire, was controlled by the nation of Doma.

Although geographically connected, there has been minimal interaction between llsabard and Othard for thousands of years. The main cause is a combination of nearly impassable mountain ranges and lethal wastelands that severely restrict all land routes. The remoteness of Othard has allowed local cultures to develop with little to no influence from the west, whereas coastal cities have only had limited trade contact with the outside world. The development of airship technology has just recently begun to bring about change, opening once locked doors of the Far East. Power-hungry Garleans were nevertheless also made aware of this new opportunity, and it wasn't long before the Empire had its sights set on Doma and Dalmasca—two countries that have since been brought under the imperial standard.[1]
