The East Shroud is a zone located in The Black Shroud.

The city-state of Gridania's large apiculture business is centered on the western side of the East Shroud, which is close to Gridania proper. Its eastern regions are home to sylphs, plant-like beastmen that, for the most part, do not appreciate intruders. Finally, in the southwest corner of the East Shroud, there is a Garlean stronghold that was built by the imperial engineers just before the Calamity.

Geography[ | ]

The Honey Yard[ | ]

This location is the perfect place for beekeepers to set up their wooden hives because of its abundance of blooms. Sadly, the Honey Yard also attracts a wide variety of monsters who are ravenous for honeybees and their golden syrup.

  • Sweetbloom Pier: Situated alongside the Whispering Gorge, the boat to Gridania stops here. The air is filled with the aroma of nectar while innumerable wildflowers can be seen and smelled by waiting passengers.
  • Fullflower Comb: The beekeepers of this area, under Rosa Hawthorne's direction, are well known for the superior honey and beeswax that come from their hives.

Nine Ivies[ | ]

Nine Ivies is recognized for the several types of ivy that may be found there, as the name would imply. In order to keep an eye out for approaching sylphs and Garlean soldiers, the Order of the Twin Adder has boosted its presence in the region.

  • The Hawthorne Hut: The current generation of the family resides in this cabin, which bears the name of the fabled Hawthornes, scourge of the highlands. The patriarch and ex-adventurer Rolfe welcomes guests into his modest home so that he may take pleasure in their companionship and storytelling.
  • Josselin's Spire: This well-placed watchtower, named after a great Wailers captain, is home to a station of the Wood Wailers and Gods' Quiver.
  • Amarissaix's Spire: Gridania's newest watchtower, it was constructed in a hurry to keep an eye on the Garlean soldiers that had lately marched on the Twelveswood from the northeast. It was named after a leader of the Gold Bulls who bravely fought against the imperial army before dying in the Battle of Carteneau.
  • Little Solace: Sylphs who would protest the summons of the Lord of Levin and chose to leave their homes and enthralled brethren in the Sylphlands find sanctuary here.
  • Castrum Oriens: Baelsar's Wall and Gyr Abania, an area of the imperially held Ala Mhigo, are located behind this Garlean fortress.

Larkscall[ | ]

Larkscall is a barrier between Gridania and the Sylphlands, however its namesake birds' songs do fill the air. Travelers and adventurers should enter at their own risk.

The Sylphlands[ | ]

Home to the beastmen of the Black Shroud, this area is teeming with Ramuh's "touched" devotees. These followers of the wise primal have planted deadly mushrooms to defend the area from intruders, pushing the ecosystem to the brink of catastrophe.

  • Moonspore Grove: Moonspores are enormous fungus that grow in this area of the Sylphlands and remove noxious substances from the atmosphere.
  • The Seedbed: An ancient arbor turned nursery used by the sylphs to nurture and incubate their young (also known as podlings), this area is illuminated in the gentle glow of innumerable moonspores.
  • The Goldleaf Dais: Created by Sylphkind so that celebrations and get-togethers may be hosted here.
  • Hanging Barbs: One can discover sylph homes perilously dangling from tree branches here.

The Bramble Patch[ | ]

According to legend, moogles like playing among the huge thorns of the Bramble Patch. In fact, they appear to relish setting off the neighborhood beastkin and treants and then enjoying the mayhem that results as the creatures make fruitless attempts to chase the troublemakers down into the Patch's thorny depths.

  • The Sanctum of the Twelve: After the Age of Endless Frost, a time when the realm was plagued by famine and sickness, this towering ivory cathedral was erected to provide a place of shelter and rest for everyone who sought solace. However, it soon went into ruin and was all but forgotten, until the Seventh Umbral Era saw the necessity for its revival.[1]
