The Dunesfolk are a clan of Lalafell.

History[ | ]

Dunesfolk

Before entering Thanalan in caravans supported on the backs of large beasts, the sons of fallen Mhach hid themselves in the desolate outlands for a time. They were known by their current name due to their nomadic lifestyle amid the sandy wastes. The magnificent civilixation of Belah'dia, which eventually split into Sil'dih and Ul'dah and is still thriving today, was built by the Dunesfolk.

Their temperament is well-suited to grabbing economic opportunities as they are practical by nature and quick to put ideas into action, thus it should come as no surprise that they were instrumental in transforming Ul'dah into the thriving commercial hub it is today.[1]

Distribution Thanalan (Ul'dah)
Physical Attributes The Dunesfolk's tanned skin, which can survive the harsh sun's rays that beat down on Thanalan, and their clear-as-glass eyes with pupils protected by a thin membrane to keep out sand are two examples of how well they have adapted to their environment. Many people are gifted with the ability to use magic, and many Dunesfolk are accomplished thaumaturges and prominent members of the clergy of the Order of Nald'thal. The number and achievements of Dunesfolk miners rival those of the Roegadyn, who make up for their lack of physical prowess with cunning and the capacity to squeeze into the smallest tunnels.
Nomenclature At first look, the names of the Dunesfolk appear to be similar to those of their Plainsfolk relatives, yet careful inspection reveals tiny but distinct variances in their rhyming schemes. While female Dunesfolk names, such "Momodi Modi," adhere to a "AAB-AB" pattern, male Dunesfolk names, like "Lolorito Nanarito," follow a "AAB-CCB" pattern. In general, Lalafellin names differ significantly from those of other races in both spelling and sound. This is partly because the original Lalafellin language only have five distinct vowels: a, e, i, o, and u.
Culture Dunesfolk have a tradition of wearing a small orb on their forehead as a symbol and in honor of their guardian deity that dates back to their predecessors, the Mhach sorcerers. Another Dunesfolk custom is giving their children herbal tea that has been infused with minute amounts of diluted snake and scorpion venom. As a result, Dunesfolk raised in conventional households frequently have an amazing resilience to several poisons.
