The Plainsfolk are a clan of Lalafell.

History[ | ]

Plainsfolk

The Plainsfolk, who can be found in the greatest numbers on Vylbrand, can trace their ancestry to the marine traders who established themselves in Limsa Lominsa to trade in looted and plunder goods. Their families eventually joined them, and together they helped to establish the larger La Noscea region. While the majority of their descendants now are farmers, some of their forebears went into shipping and fishing when conflicts with the kobolds halted further exploration of the continent. The Plainsfolk, who now make up a sizeable portion of the Lominsan population, are renowned for their carefree, pleasant way of life.[1]

Distribution La Noscea (Limsa Lominsa), The Southern Seas
Physical Attributes The Lalafell are by far the smallest race in Eorzea, with an average height of about 35 ilms. However, they more than make up for their lack of physical power with their quick reflexes and mental acuity. More than a few men have paid the price for misjudging a Lalafell. Many Plainsfolk have hair that is earthy or grassy in color, and there are theories that these hues evolved to hide themselves from the terrifying vultures that roam the skies above their island homes.
Nomenclature When a Lalafellin reaches adulthood, they receive a "courtesy name" in addition to their given name. The latter is the person's own name rather than a family name. Lalafellin names are governed by rhyme, rhythm, and repetition, with their roots in old language songs and poems. Male Plainsfolk names, such "Alka Zolka," have an AB-CB rhyme pattern, whereas female names, like "Mimomo Mimo," have an ABB-AB rhyme pattern.
Culture The Plainsfolk were farmers on their island home to the south, living in homes with thatched roofs and underground tunnels like ant colonies. They are pioneers of new and previously unexplored places, and their gardening and horticultural abilities are unmatched. They made the most of their small and light bodies to travel long distances in basic but reliable canoes, establishing their own distinct seafaring and navigating techniques that they now use to great advantage as fishermen and maritime traders.
