Initiating and accepting quests

Non-player characters (NPCs) offering quests can be recognized by the exclamation marks above their heads. Right-click the mark to bring up the quest window. Once the quest has been initiated, a prompt will appear detailing its objectives and rewards. Click on the Accept button in the lower left to add the quest to the list of current duties.

Upon accepting a quest, the current objectives will appear under the quest title in the duty list on the right side of the screen. A maximum of five quests can be displayed at once. Clicking on the title will open the quest in the journal, allowing the player to review objectives and rewards.

Quest interactions

Some quests require players to use a key item on an enemy target. There are two ways to do so. The first is by right-clicking the enemy's target bar and selecting Use Key Item from the subcommands. The second method is to first target an enemy, then click on the key item icon found in the duty list.

On some quests, players will encounter objects with which they can interact simply by approaching, then right-clicking.

Some quests will require players to deliver items. If an NPC requires an item, an Item Request window will appear. Drag the items from the inventory or Armory Chest into the item Request window and click Hand Over to complete the transaction. Items can also be added to the Item Request window by right-clicking them.

Special instances

These areas are reserved for important battles which feature unique environmental conditions or powerful boss enemies. Instance objectives can be confirmed in the duty list. For the duration of the battle, players will be unable to pass beyond the red line displayed on the field. Players will automatically leave the instance once all quest objectives have been met.

Quest rewards

There are some actions which only can be learned by completing specific class quests. For example, the ranged lancer weaponskill Piercing Talon is acquired by completing the Lancers' Guild quest available at level 15.

Beast tribe reputation quests

By helping the beast tribes of Eorzea resolve their issues through beast tribe quests, players can improve their reputation among its members. The quests that are available change on a daily basis, and players can accept up to twelve in a single day. However a new quest cannot be accepted while the previous day's is still in progress. To view the reputation status among the beast tribes, select Reputation from the Character menu.

Completing a beast tribe quest will improve a player's reputation with that tribe. When the reputation has risen sufficiently, players will be able to raise it to the next rank by undertaking a special quest. As a player's bond with the beast tribe strengthens, they will be able to purchase an ever-expanding range of items from tribe vendors. The beastmen deal in wares found nowhere else in the world, and the only way to obtain them is to win their trust!

Ixal quests

You must be a Disciple of the Hand to accept or complete Ehcatl Nine beast tribe quests. Items required to complete these quests can only be synthesized after equipping a pair of Ehcatl Wristgloves [Ehcatl Wristgloves]. Experience points earned by completing these quests will be allocated to the current class. The amount of experience awarded upon completion can be viewed in the journal, and will automatically update in the event the class is changed.
